Kayak Rack Load Bar: Episode 9

John "Toast" Oast of Fishyaker.com demonstrates how easy it is to build a loading device to assist in getting your yak to your racks. This one was a bit tougher. The problem is that it would need to be pretty specific for the vehicle. I used 3/4 inch PVC, but may replace the cross bar with steel to make it stronger. Here's the breakdown... 1 - 8 foot 3/4" PVC pipe 2 - 3/4" PVC T fittings 2 - 3/4" PVC 90 degree fittings 1 - 3/4" centered pipe insulation I cut the PVC into 5 pieces (Additional cross pieces may be used for reinforcement.). The top pieces are longer than the lower two. The cross bar just needs to be long enough to cover your keel width. With this device, you can just pick up one end of the yak, place it on the load bar, then push the other end forwards. It keeps you from needing to lift your entire kayak at once.
